After a few hours exploring Blenheim Palace we drove on to Waddeston Manor .The village was a surprise – you round a corner and here are these two storied old brick buildings with amazing twisted chimneys unlike any I have seen elsewhere.
Another stately home, Waddeston Manor was smaller than Blenheim but equally as impressive, and again with lovely expansive gardens including a parterre garden, and lawns.
Built in the Neo-Renaissance style of a French château between 1874 and 1889 for Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild there was a wine shop with some of their own wines on sale, and a café. We didn’t get to look inside the main House as there were renovations going on.
Waddeston is also a popular wedding venue – The Dairy, which is a separate building for weddings is set back from the driveway, and well away from visitors to the Manor House. There seem to be several other possible choices inside as well … I guess it would depend on how big the wedding is.
This lovely Manor House is featured in many films including the currently popular Downtown Abby . Not so well known by tourists, it is well worth visiting and very close to Blenheim Palace so easy to visit the two in one day.
